Types of connections to the LAN
Wired—An Ethernet cable connects the device directly to the LAN.
Wi-Fi—Name for IEEE 802.11x specification. Provides access or connection to a network using radio waves.
A subnet is a logical grouping of network devices.
Dynamic addresses are assigned through the networking software. DHCP is enabled.
Subnet mask works with the IP address.
Gateway is the router’s IP address.
Static IP addresses are manually configured and DHCP is disabled.
DNS – Dynamic Naming Service –translates IP address to a domain name.
